How to become an
ATPL professional Pilot

If you want to become a professional pilot and get your Airline Transport pilot licence ATPL, in order to start your pilot jurney, first of all you need to be a healthy, responsible individual, at least 16 years of age and eager and ready to learn.

Your first step is starting with your Private Pilot Licence PPL and learning how to fly a small single engine piston aircraft.

This would be your first step into aviation and once you have your PPL licence, you will be able to build your advanced ratings and licences to continue on your professional jurney of becoming an airline pilot.

Steps

After completing our PPL Theory Course, you will have to take and pass official EASA exams in any EASA authority. You have 18 months to pass all of them.

When you finish your Theory exams, you are ready to proceed to the practical part of your training - the Flight Course.

Your Flight Training Course consists of minimum 45 hours of flight time of which:

  • Minimum 25 hours dual time with instructor;

  • Minimum 10 hours solo flight time of which:

  • 5 hours of solo Cross-Country flight time and

  • 1 solo cross-country flight of no less than 150NM route including 2 full stop landings at 2 airports different than departure or destination airports.

After PPL, comes Night Rating course. Within 5h of flying, you will finish your Night Rating course and will be able to fly during night in VMC conditions.

Now will be a good time to start your ATPL Theory course.

While doing your ATPL Theory, you would need to build flight time hours to get to a required minimum of 50h of Cross-Country as a PIC (Pilot-in-Command) to start your Instrument Rating course. This will be 50h of dual flying with your IR instructor, learning how to fly under IFR (Instrument Flight Rules).

For the next step, which is a CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence) you would need to have a minimum of 100h of PIC time. CPL course will be a 15h course, after which you now have what is called a 'Frozen ATPL'.

Getting your
ATPL Licence

To be eligable for applying to entry level airline jobs, you would need to further aquire following ratings and trainings:

  • MEP (Multi Engine Class Rating)

  • IR/ME (Multi Engine Instrument Rating)

  • MCC (Multi Crew Cooperation)

  • UPRT (Upset Prevention Recovery Training)

Optional:

  • JOT (Jet Orientation Training)

Once working on a multi-pilot aircraft, after reaching 1500h of flight time, you will 'unfreeze' your 'frozen ATPL' and get your ATPL licence.
