Night Rating course - NVFR

What is
Night Rating?
A Night Rating (NR or NVFR) is an additional qualification that allows a pilot to fly VFR at night.
Night flying is a different environment: visual cues are reduced, lighting and illusions play a bigger role, and planning becomes more disciplined.
The Night Rating course teaches you the techniques and decision-making needed to operate safely after sunset, including night take-offs and landings, navigation, and abnormal/emergency procedures.
With a Night Rating, you expand your privileges and flexibility—whether you want to extend your flying day, build confidence, or prepare for further training such as commercial or instrument flying.
What are the requirements?
To start Night Rating training, you must hold a valid Part-FCL licence with aeroplane privileges, and have a valid medical certificate. You should also have recent flying experience and be comfortable with basic aircraft handling and circuit procedures, as the course focuses on adapting those skills to the night environment.
If you hold an LAPL, your night training will be aligned with the regulatory requirements, including any prerequisite instrument-related training before completing night privileges.
Requirements for the Night Rating:
-
Valid PPL(A) or LAPL(A) Licence with a valid SEP(A) or TMG rating with BIFM
-
Valid Medical certificate (Class 2 or Class 1)

Night Rating Course Structure
The Night Rating course consists of theoretical knowledge instruction and practical flight training at night.
The theory covers the key differences between day and night operations: night VMC minima, airspace and aerodrome procedures at night, lighting systems, navigation lights, human factors (night vision and disorientation), weather risks, and practical planning such as safe altitudes and route preparation.
Theoretical Training: 6 hours
Flight training focuses on building safe, repeatable procedures. You will practise night departures, circuits, approaches, and landings, learn how to manage cockpit and external lighting, and train for realistic abnormal scenarios such as inadvertent IMC avoidance strategies, lighting failures, and engine-failure considerations at night. The course also includes a structured night navigation element to ensure you can plan and execute a night cross-country safely and confidently.
Practical Flight Training: 5 hours
Upon successful completion, the training organisation issues a course completion certificate so you can apply to have the Night Rating endorsed on your licence.
How much does Night rating course cost?
Price for the NVFR(A) course on a Cessna 172 aircraft is:
2.300€ (VAT included)
which includes all relevant costs for the course*.
*LAPL licence holders must complete the PPL Basic Instrument Flying exercises. This training consists of 1 hour of flight exercises and is not included in the price.
Where is the flight course located?
Flight course is generally completed on several locations in Croatia including Zagreb, Zadar, Rijeka and Pula, but the course location can be changed and completed at a location of choice for additional charge.
