Instrument Rating course

Instrument Rating course Croatia

What is
Instrument Rating?

An Instrument Rating (IR) is an advanced qualification that allows a pilot to operate an aircraft solely by reference to the flight instruments, without relying on outside visual cues.

With an IR, a pilot is trained and authorized to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), navigate and control the aircraft in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC), and safely conduct all instrument procedures, including standard instrument departures (SIDs), arrivals (STARs), and precision or non-precision approaches.

This rating enables pilots to use navigation aids such as the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and other instrument-based procedures, significantly expanding their operational capability, safety, and situational flexibility in reduced visibility or adverse weather.

What are the requirements?

To start Instrument Rating (IR) training, pilots must meet several experience, knowledge, and language requirements that ensure they are prepared for the demands of instrument flying:

Requirements for the Instrument Rating (IR):

  • Valid PPL(A) Licence

  • Minimum of 50 hours of cross-country flight time as PIC

  • ATPL(A) theory or IR(A) theory, both you can complete with Flight School Croatia

  • ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or higher
